The Samsung Galaxy Note II vs The LG Optimus 4X HD

Samsung-Galaxy-Note-II-vs-LG-Optimus-4X-HD

The LG Optimus 4X HD was LGs best on Android until the Optimus G arrived on the market. In comparison with the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 some will call me crazy. How can you compare black and white? How can you compare apples with oranges? How can you compare the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 with the LG Optimus 4x HD?

I know what you are thinking’ one is a tablet one is a smartphone. But I would argue that both have large screens, 8 megapixel cameras and speedy processors. Both are big and someone considering buying one may also consider the other. So . . . with that out of the way swiftly on.

Overview

The design of the Samsung is thinner and lighter than its predecessor. It is still bulky but it is quite nice in the hand, apart from being a bit slippery. The Optimus 4X HD is remarkably compact for a big screen phone. It is patterned on the sides and rear and is good to grip. It is actually very attractive too!

It is nice to see that both handsets have removable batteries and microSD cards.  Too many phones fail to offer this flexibility.

Screens

The 4.7 inch IPS LCD screen on the LG is remarkably big compared to the weight and size of the phone. You get a lot of screen for your bulk. With wide viewing angles, clear and accurate colours, and excellent brightness, this screen operates well outdoors and in. It is a great display.

The gigantic 5.5 inch Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Display is less bright and therefore has inferior performance outdoors. However, size, contrast and oversaturated colourisation make it a beauty to behold. It is truly great for streaming or browsing. The LG 4X HD has better pixel density, but the difference is so small it is not worth saying any more on it.

Conclusions

Both phones offer incredibly viewing experiences. For me the Samsung is too big to be a phone. I am morally opposed to it being called a phone and it’s weight means it should be in a case being carried and not in the pocket. It is a tablet.

For that reason I am going to throw a curve ball and rate the LG Optimus 4D 8.5/10 and the Samsung Note 2 2/10. As a phone the LG wins in a landslide.

I should I guess do an objective rating of the Samsung too and for this I give it a whopping 9.3/10- as a phablet it is great.

Phil Turner loves the value that Tesco mobile phones offer. His Tesco phone bill is only half what it used to be on O2.
